Featuring Nashville, Memphis, and New Orleans Jazz Fest
April 23–30, 2018
Join us for eight days of a foot-tapping good time exploring the beating hearts of the American music scene!
We’ll dive right into country tunes with our first stop—Nashville, Tennessee! In this famous city, we’ll take a tour of the historic RCA Studio B, the oldest remaining recording studio where Elvis Presley, Dolly Parton, and Charlie Pride all recorded some of their classic hits. You might even get the chance to record your own hit! Later, we’ll take a guided sight-seeing tour around Music City and see the State Capitol, Music Row, and the Parthenon (without having to travel to Greece!). A must-see is the Country Music Hall of Fame, the largest museum of popular music in the world.
If that’s not enough for one day, we’ll also take a tour of a historic distillery and learn why this region is known for its famous Tennessee whiskey. Then, we’ll end the day with a show at the renowned Grand Ole Opry, including a backstage tour!
The next day, we’ll tour WSM Radio Station and meet a local radio personality. We’ll stop for a visit at the old Ryman Auditorium and later, step back in time and enjoy the sweeping elegance of the Belle Meade Plantation while indulging in a local wine tasting. From Nashville, we’ll head to Memphis and make it in time for some delectable Southern cuisine paired with some of the best live music in town.
We’ll really see what Memphis has to offer when we take a musical tour of the city! Local musicians board the coach to talk and sing all about the history and heritage of this magical place—don’t be afraid to sing along! Our next stop is Graceland, the palatial home of Elvis Presley. We’ll explore his 14-acre estate, including his home, exhibits about his life and music, the racquetball building, and the Meditation Garden, where Elvis and members of his family were laid to rest.
Next stop: New Orleans! We’ll head to the Jazz Capital of the World to enjoy Cajun and Creole cuisine and, of course, a soulfully smooth soundtrack. For our first day, you’ll have a choice between a French Quarter walking tour or a motor coach tour of New Orleans. The French Quarter tour offers stops at the majestic St. Louis Cathedral, the French Market, and Café du Monde for some beignets. From the motor coach, you’ll see the historic Esplanade Avenue, St. Louis Cemetery #3 with its elaborate crypts dating back to 1854, and the beauty of the shores of Lake Pontchartrain. We’ll all join up in the evening for the famous New Orleans Jazz Fest, once referred to by Life magazine as “the country’s very best music festival,’’ where some of the biggest names perform!
The next day, we’ll switch to boating and take a cruise through Louisiana’s atmospheric swamps and learn about the ecology of this ecosystem, staying on the watch for bald eagles, herons, turtles, and alligators. In the afternoon, we’ll get some behind-the-counter secrets of the amazing food of New Orleans at the New Orleans School of Cooking. After dinner, we’ll relax with a jazz revue at a French Quarter jazz club. Soak up the atmosphere as much as you can because tomorrow we head home with our wonderful memories!
